Summer at Blue Belldon Farm, in 2020.
What a time, what a time! 2020 defeats all rhyme (but here’s some photos instead).
above, hollyhocks from the seeds from Cousin Pete and Linda’s garden before they sold their farm in Ontario. Love their rich burgundy colour~
above, Richard shows that the apples falling are no good yet and must be taken to back of property.
While Joy works very hard weeding the veggie garden, below, Richard works hard stacking 6 cords of wood delivered for winter.
Suiting up to work in the garden in – yes, AUGUST, because the blackflies are still so bad – they may not bite quite as much as they do in May and June and July, but they are everywhere in the air, and swarming your ears and eyes and mouth… BLEK. Richard and Smitty take a break on the side porch and yes, even there, there are blackflies!
above, one of many many reasons this is called Blue Belldon Farm – purpley and blueish flowers all year long starting with forget-me-knots in early spring and ending with plenty of borage (on other side of steps and all through our veggie garden as it’s the best pollinator for the bees!) and coneflowers
Mom/Joy transplanted some of Cousin Linda’s gorgeous hollyhocks near our back steps . Then Richard made picket fences for all the flower beds to keep the dog from peeing on them all and to try and dissuade the chickens from climbing in and digging in the dirt.
We don’t see a lot of wildlife here – nor, surprisingly HEAR wildlife. But one morning Mom woke up to catch this big lonely guy in our parking lot!
And then, there’s always chickens, though as far as barn animals that’s all we have anymore!
Not much free space left for this blog, folks, so this one is really nearing the end of 4 years of writing and photo-taking! Maybe room for just one or two more…
Stay safe and happy summer WHERE YOU ARE !
